Feast on these 5 dining room essentials!
These might make your cooking taste even better.
Making your cooking taste even better might be quite the feat, rumours are you’re quite the cordon bleu. But the right dining room elements can definitely elevate the dining experience, making it not only a meal to be shared with friends, family or with a significant other, but also an event.
Renowned chef Alain Ducasse said it beautifully:
“Food is one part of the experience. And it has to be somewhere between 50 to 60 percent of the dining experience. But the rest counts as well: The mood, the atmosphere, the music, the feeling, the design, the harmony between what you have on the plate and what surrounds the plate.”
And, don’t worry, there are 5 dining room staples that will make accomplishing the harmony Ducasse talks about a piece of cake. Get your notebooks out, here they are!
The comfort level of your chairs shouldn’t be just fine, it should be a sit-for-hours kind of comfy. The dining chairs above, made from our best-selling Chita fabric, might even make your guests want to stay put a long, long time after dessert has been enjoyed. Opening another bottle of rosé? They’re sleeping over!
Here’s a universal truth: kitchen and dining rooms are bound to get a little crowded. The dining table being is such a communal space – homework, paperwork, board games, crafts – it’s going to get messy. But having the right kind of storage available can save the day! A deep cabinet, like the stunning mirrored console above, can house all of the nice china you don’t need every day, plus a few of your dining room essentials like placemats and candleholders, etc. The right storage will leave the room uncluttered and ready for a dinner party, no matter what kind of activities have just taken place!
A great table
A table is to a meal what a canvas is to a painting – it’s the foundation. When selecting a new table, make sure you take into consideration those daily tasks your family uses it for, as well as the amount of people you usually host for dinner. Want more pizzazz? A live-edge wood table can make all of the difference, letting you rock that rustic-chic look daily. Want more pie? Coming right up.
While at a friend’s house the other day, I realized that her table is always beautifully set. Even when she’s not expecting company! Time and time again, her table accessories were all carefully selected, perfectly complementing her decor and bringing with them a delicious sophistication. Unfortunately, if you’re anything like me, your table always has to be cleared for your next Monopoly showdown, but taking out your placemats, tablecloths, table runners, cloth napkins, coasters or serving plates should bring you immense joy, setting the vibe for your upcoming get-together.
In the quote at the top of this post, Ducasse mentions mood and atmosphere – turns out there’s no better way to create that, than with candles! To not interfere with the aromas of your meal, opt for unscented candles on the dining table. Before putting them in place, think about the kind of dinner party you’re about to host. Will it be served family style? If so, placing candles on the buffet is probably best – you wouldn’t want a guest’s sleeve to catch fire while passing the potatoes!
